Flow Thru
Similar to cross-docking, this process involves sorting products obtained from suppliers according to customer orders and dispatching them without placing them in stock. Unlike cross-docking, it may be necessary to change the contents of the transport container, so the products inside the container are handled individually and subjected to both the receiving and order preparation processes simultaneously. When the quantity of the relevant product exceeds the order quantity, the remaining quantity (referred to as residue) is only subject to goods receipt and is placed in stock. Thus, by sorting the incoming product partially or completely according to orders during the entry phase and only placing the unmatched items in stock, operational processes are reduced and savings in resource usage are achieved.
